From The Heart of Yoga by T.K.V. Desikachar

Avidaya literally means "correct understanding" describing a false perception or a misapprehension... Avidaya can be understood as the accumulated result of our may unconscious actions, the actions and ways of perceiving that we have been mechanically carrying out for years.

The reccommendation of a regular yoga practice follows the principle that through practice we can learn to stay present in every moment, and thereby achieve much that we were previously incapable of.

For a deeper understanding of Yoga, read this book. The message of staying present in your life and knowing that your actions today can differ from your past actions are two of the most prevelent themes in the book. So often we assume we don't have a choice, but the ability to change your life is in your hands and it starts with being present in every moment.
