Eat Well

Ubuntu, Napa
Being from Northern California means that we carry a certain bias about our home.  This pride may stem from the fact that California is one of the most culturally rich places in the world. And Napa county is just one of the many cultural niches worth exploring within California's boundaries. Napa is home to the beautiful and earth-friendly restaurant Ubuntu.  Ubuntu's food has yet to touch our palates but we wanted to share our find with you.  Ubuntu literally means "humanity towards others" and this restaurant/yoga studio is a DEAL for your soul.

Their approach to cooking is something called BIODYNAMIC AGRICULTURE which recognizes the basic principles at work in nature and applies this knowledge of life forces to bring about balance and healing in the soil. At a time when new synthetic chemicals are being injected into the environment, Biodynamics works to counteract the unbalanced state of modern agricultural practices by utilizing a "whole systems" approach.

Biodynamics is the oldest organized organic approach to farming: farms and gardens have been in operation in many countries and climates since the 1920's. Biodynamics is built on the premise that the more self-sufficient a farm is, the healthier it will be. The aim is to have a great diversity of plant and animal life. At the heart of Biodynamics is the use of special preparations in homeopathic doses that enhance the life of soil, plants, and animals. (source: Ubuntu website, www.ubuntunapa.com)

If their methods of farming are not enough to perk your culunary interests, know that Ubuntu is a restaurant and a yoga studio built to embody responsible design and inspired living by using reclaimed materials and vintage furniture. We cannot wait to visit!
