Farmer's Fresh Indulgence

Did you know that strawberries have more vitamin C than oranges! Yet another reason to add them to your morning oatmeal! One cup of strawberries holds more vitamin C than one orange. We LOVE strawberries and buy them every week from our local farmers at the Farmer's Market. We split a box of three cartons for just $5!  Now thats a DEAL!

There are over 600 varieties of strawberries in the world! Along with providing loads of vitamin C, strawberries also contain vitamin K, dietary fiber, and flavonoids and are a good source of manganese, pantothenic acid, vitamin B1, iodine, vitamin B6, folic acid, and biotin. Strawberries  also help to protect against inflammation, cancer, and heart disease. But we love them because they taste so delicious!

Be careful to store them correctly. Always wash your fruits and vegetables diligently just before eating. If you store them in the fridge unwashed in an airtight container lined with a paper towel to absorb moisture they should keep well for a little under one week. It is also best that they do not rest too heavily on top one another so a shallow and wide container is preferable to a tall deep one.
